Chapter by Tonya McQuade: “Publishing a Class Poetry E-Book: A Teacher’s Use of Technology to Make Poetry Exciting and Relevant for Students” (Coming March 2024)

This book has been a long time coming, but it is supposedly being published soon. My chapter discusses the Poetry Ebook Project I did for six years in my English 9 Honors classes, where we published ebooks through independent publisher Smashwords. On the right, I’ve placed links to various articles that have been written about this project, as well as a podcast by Smashwords founder Mark Coker. I’ve also included links below to the various poetry ebooks the English 9 Honors classes produced.

Apple Podcast: Publishing in the Classroom (by Smashwords Found Mark Coker)

When high school students are given the chance to publish their writing as an ebook, it helps them gain a new appreciation for the written word.  Mark Coker shares details of an innovative writing project in Los Gatos, California where each  year high school students collaborate to write and publish a poetry anthology that is sold in all the major ebook stores. Learn how you, as a writer, reader, educator or concerned citizen, can launch similar ebook publishing programs in your community.
